So you wanna be free!

I hear people talking all the time about how we’ve lost so much in the last 20 years, as far as freedom is concerned; especially since September 11, 2001.  Well, you’re right.  We have lost a lot of the freedoms we once enjoyed.  We have had liberties squashed under the thumbs of tyranny disguised as security.  But, now, people are beginning to wake up and get loud.  So, you want your freedom and liberty back, too?

Well, let us start out with freedom and liberty as a mindset.  You cannot be free if you don’t believe you are free!  I don’t mean that as the general idea that we live in a free country.  I mean that in that you have to really believe that you are free and no one and actually make you do or believe anything you don’t want.  I’m not talking anarchy, but true liberty; just enough government to keep the wolves at bay.  True freedom and liberty allows conservatives to be conservative and liberals to be liberal without persecution from any governmental agency. That was specifically pointed at the IRS and NSA; they seem to forget that we are not the wolves they need to watch.

I’m sure, by now, that you’ve noticed I use freedom and liberty as two different ideas.  While they are very similar, there are some differences.  However both are equally important to this country’s survival.

Merriam-Webster’s dictionary defines freedom as:

:  the quality or state of being free: as

a :  the absence of necessity, coercion, or constraint in choice or action
b :  liberation from slavery or restraint or from the power of another :  independence
c :  the quality or state of being exempt or released usually from something onerous <freedom from care>
 d :  ease, facility <spoke the language with freedom>
e :  the quality of being frank, open, or outspoken <answered with freedom>
 f :  improper familiarity
g :  boldness of conception or execution
h :  unrestricted use <gave him the freedom of their home>
a:  a political right

Merriam-Webster’s dictionary defines liberty as:

:  the quality or state of being free:

a :  the power to do as one pleases
b :  freedom from physical restraint
c :  freedom from arbitrary or despotic control
d :  the positive enjoyment of various social, political, or economic rights and privileges
e :  the power of choice
a:  a right or immunity enjoyed by prescription or by grant :  privilege

b:  permission especially to go freely within specified limits
Definitely close, but a few differences that can make a huge impact.  You see, people, if we all start acting like we truly have liberty and freedom that was once enjoyed by all Americans, the powers that be will have no choice but to stop trying to oppress the citizenry.
What happens next is up to those in authority.  Do they back off or do they become more heavy-handed?  That tells us what happens next to ensure our liberty.  Does it stay civil or become an “American Spring?”
